How does OxyBand Wound Dressing™ work (where is the oxygen?)

OxyBand Wound Dressing™ has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration, FDA 510(k), K043063, and provides oxygen to wounds for up to 5 days. OxyBand Wound Dressing™ is a multi-layer wound dressing that comes pre-filled with high levels of oxygen between the layers. OxyBand Wound Dressing™ incorporates a barrier layer that holds the oxygen, in the vicinity, of the wound, and a permeable or porous layer that allows oxygen to diffuse into the wound. The dressing acts like an oxygen reservoir, allowing the wound to utilize as much oxygen as needed, and continues to supply oxygen on demand as the wound consumes oxygen from the wound fluid.

How has the product been tested?

The efficacy of OxyBand Wound Dressing™ has been evaluated in two civilian and one military clinical trial. OxyBand Wound Dressing™ has been rigorously tested and the percent oxygen, Locally Applied, (L.A.O.), has been investigated in OxyBand studies. Studies such as in vitro, for efficacy in reducing bacteria alone, and with silver; in vivo for increasing dissolved wound oxygen levels (PO2) and, for sustaining elevated PO2 after hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) and, clinically at preeminent research and clinical institutions such as, the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research have shown OxyBand is safe and effective.

Can OxyBand be used on a wet wound?

OxyBand Wound Dressing™ has been tested on healing wounds with exudate. OxyBand Wound Dressing™, Hydrocolloid, wicks moisture from the wound while the OxyBand proprietary oxygen reservoir system diffuses oxygen to the wound, saturating the wound fluid and for the wound to metabolize.

How much wound fluid can the dressing absorb?

The amount of exudate will depend on the size and depth of the wound and the size of the dressing.

How often does the dressing need to be changed?

While dressing changes are obviously dependent upon the wound size and severity as well as other factors, It is best to ask your doctor or health care provider to determine the follow up schedule for your specific wound. OxyBand™ has been bench tested to diffuse oxygen for up to 5 days and OxyBand Wound Dressing™ was clinically evaluated every 4 days in the USAISR clinical trial.

Can the dressing be cut?

No, oxygen in the dressing is gas oxygen that dissolves into the wound fluid when the OxyBand Wound Dressing™ is intact and adhered around the wound forming a barrier to diffusion of the oxygen into the atmosphere.

Can I remove the dressing to look at the wound and reapply the same dressing?

No, oxygen is a gas and when open to the atmosphere and not directed toward the wound, will diffuse out of the dressing. This is based on equilibrium. Once the dressing is removed, the dressing will have to be replaced with a new OxyBand Wound Dressing™.

What is the dressing's shelf life?

Typically, two years.
